On Friday morning. at 12. oclock. May 20.th. the child was born Dr Anderson, was alone with me. The nurse had not arrived. Mother was too much agitated to be in the room, Mrs H. was in the parlour.

It was a dreadfull hour for me, still God was mercifull. The child came at last, it was perfectly formed, a little girl, it had life, but it became extinct in a moment. I was four months, and a half gone. Mr H. had it buried in St. Johns, or rather the episcopal burying ground, in Hudson Street. We did not shed many tears for its loss, thinking in the goodness of “God”, it had been saved from the “judge- ment to come”.
