Friday.29.th. October. A warm, rain; pouring in torrents all day. Wind high in the evening. My back aches sewing steadily, on my “chintz valens.”[sic]. Had pumpkin pies made to day. Fried our winter potatoes for the first time. Children all well, Julia’s cold getting better. Mr. Alliger, called to say he and his wife would come to.morrow. Took a warm bath to.night. Some salts this morning. Did not flush so much to.day. Garret, took his first sitting, this morning. I wish I could control my appetite for unwholesome eatables.
Saturday. October.30.1840. A beautifull, [sic] clear day. I spent my morning preparing for our guests. They came at twelve, but could not remain to dinner, Mrs Alliger not handsome, merely interesting. Catharine came in, after dinner we rode down to see Isabella; spent an hour pleasantly with her. Julia’s hat comes home.
