Monday. 7.th. of June. 1841. A bright pleasant morning. The Dr thought of returning home this evening, but remained in expectation of seeing some young ladies. I went up to invite Maria Onderdonk after breakfast, She could not come, on account of Andrews illness. From then I rode to mothers; they discouraged me from inviting Caroline May. Maria promised to come down but broke her engagement, so that all my efforts failed in getting up a tea.party. Eugene came in the evening. I was over powered with sleep, and could scarcely keep my eyes open. A Miss Hasbrouck, from Marbletown, spent the day with Maria. The Dr called on Mr Anelli, he was from home. A shower, with vivid lightening and thunder, came on in the night, it awoke me from a deep sleep.
