A cold, January day, clear and bright.

The steam boat could not proced [sic] farther
than Newberg, the ice above was firm, and thick on Saturday.
I kept my bed untill after dinner to lie in quiet, and not irritate my throat, which was much better. Mr H. went to Church.
I took a Seidbets powder, which alway sets effectually on my system. Slept two hours sweetly.
Spent the afternoon and evening reading
and discussing with G. “somebody” he has become pred__[dreed] against.
