pg 002Monday. 18. teenth. September. 1843.

Mild rain, misty atmosphere.

The children commenced school this morning in fine spirits. They went off in the Omnibus with great ardour and impatience. These are happy days for them could they but realize the fact; but alas this truth shines on our more sober years. At dinner Mr H. invited me to go to Niblo’s, to see the Ravels. I sent for C. and Maria. We all set off at six and were just leaving the door, when Maria H. arrived from Marbletown. She went with us, we saw the Ravels. Very close night. The girls staid the night, we had a niblosserenade aposite1 [sic] I bruised my eye in the dark.
