Sunday. Jan. 6th 1850.
Very fine to day. Mild & melting.
I took the children to Church, felt
pretty well, but my bowels troublesome. Have not been able to go
for a month, from weather and other causes.
Mr. Hutton gave us a New Year’s reproof, telling us we were not as
religious as the Pagans, or idolaters of old. This may seem severe
but I must confess its true, according to our light, how dark
are our ways.” May this day be a new starting point for all”.
Garret commenced the Bible, Remsen also.
I spoke very seriously to the children, Julia & Louis particularly.
as they grieve me by their disunion. Such feelings are wicked
between brother and sisters.
