July. 16. 1850.
Warm, and misty.
Mr H. Remsen & myself left the
city this morning; locked up our house and started for “Stone
Ridge. The fog on the river, frightened me, but by ten it
disappeared. We dined at Rondout, rode to the Ridge
in our own carriage, Charly felt the heat. Met Benjamin
on the rode, he had met with an accident.
Found Julia & Louis expecting us.
G. remained two weeks, then returned to the city, I felt
sad enough to lose him.
Louis, had a sore foot one month. I called in Dr De Witt.
[Nanny] Quin, and Big Ann assisted Margaret in the work.
The weather delightfull in this month. Rain fell
plentifully; keeping all things green.
