Friday 28th March. 1851.
High wind, dust in clouds.

I am very busy clearing
out our clothes room; worked quite hard.
The “Plumber’s putting a new sink in the kitchen, a trouble. some piece of work.
I went out, bought some lace to finish my de laine; the dust blinded me.
Went after dinner to Badoines with Julia; met Maria, did not see her until we had passed. Returned with her, gave her Horace’s [Julia’s brother] letters and papers for pa. She comes with sad news, all invalids, Henry sick in bed, mother, Catharine with colds, pa rheumatism and herself looking poorly.
I think the air of Chelsea, unhealthy for them, as they are always complaining. She wonders I have not been up this week, but my time is all employed.
