Wednesday. 21st Jan. 1852.
Snow falling. More moderate of course.
I could not get warm last night, and
did not sleep very sound.
The cold was intense, we were building up the fires
from morning till night.
My room the most comfortable, there I feel warm; and
do not stint the coal.
How difficult we find it to get up in the
morning, I am worse than any one of the family.
Mr H. jumps up with resolution, to call our lazy
trio. This was always my duty, but now he spares
me the half hours nap. When the spring comes on I
must return to my good old habit of being the first in the
I filled all the decanters, with wine, sherry, brandy, and
Cordials. Enough to last the winter through.
I hope the credit of emptying them will not fall to my
share, as one glass a day, is my measure.
This I take for health, to give me some strength.
Mrs Weatherby and Charlotte called this morning.
Mr Leati, gave Julia her lesson, praised her performance.
Dr Duvall, came I to see her, presented her
dining. Invited her to ride, to.morrow afternoon.
Came after the lesson, and took her a short ride.
Rima with him. He invited them to go to the Opera.
I declined for Julia.
