An overcast morning, bright sun shine at noon. I did not feel well enough to walk through the hot sun. Went after dinner with Mrs Hale, Mr Hasbrouck, declined going, he is rather neligent of this important duty. Our pew was crowded and I felt rather heated and uncomfortable. Mr Halsey gave us a good sermon, on the death of Moses; and the music by Mr Metz was fine. We had a pleasant walk home at sun down. Our host was sick but not from disease. The children all romped around too much for the Sabbath day. I spoke to Garret on the subject of neglecting the sabbath, as parents should set their children a good example. The Scriptures tell us to “train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Garret, is too lenient on these important subjects.
