Thursday. 30.th. 1840. A beautifull day; showers in the night previous. Rode out with Garret, and Louis to Bloomingdale, Manhattenville, a three hours ride. Came home fatigued, the ride too much for me. We stopped a few moments in “nineteenth st” [Julia’s family’s house]; I borrowed a thick shawl, did not wear it. The country in blossom, air loaded with perfume.

Surprisingly, there is a post for a date that doesn’t exist, April 31st.
Friday. 31 st. April. 1840
Clear weather. My ride did not agree with me, weakened me too much. G. went to see C. again. Maria Hasbrouck, sent her hat and a note.
